Tirol Kiwi and Watermelon

After my first wonderful experience with Tirol I wanted to try more and found a couple of packs of different flavors available online, the first of these being this kiwi and watermelon one. These don't seem like flavors that really go well with chocolate, but Tirol seems to be really good at tying a bunch of unrelated flavors together in one delicious foil-wrapped package. So I'm very excited for some more fruity chocolate! Aroooooooo

First thing I noticed when opening the bag was the pleasant fruity smell! It wasn't easy to identify any one flavor but it instantly reminds me of being on the beach, it's that kind of smell that fills you with joy and makes you want to do a dance and run around in the sunshine and chase your tail... Anyways, here we have the kiwi chocolate first. It's a little less colorful than the cute packaging suggests, instead more resembling key lime pie, strange. Of course key lime pie is also very good so I wouldn't be complaining, but we have a tan layer on top, a brown later on bottom, and some black dots in the middle that could be the seeds? No idea what those could taste like. But as expected the chocolate has a delightful kiwi smell.

Inside the chocolate resembles the strawberry jelly one with a jelly filling inside. The "seeds" provide a little bit of a crunch which is a bit distracting, but it is supposed to resemble biting into a kiwi. The kiwi taste is not as vibrant as the smell indicated, but it is certainly there. Overall the taste was just a bit dull to me. Some sweetness, but overall left a little to be desired.

The watermelon chocolate looks a bit more vibrant in color, with most of the surface being a bright pink. And there is also a bright lime green on the bottom (not shown at the moment) that promises maybe a bit more vibrance than the previous chocolate. The smell is a nice watermelon flavor, and is a bit more authentic smelling than your typical Jolly Rancher. The "seeds" also play into that.

When I first bit into the chocolate I got a very unexpected pop, because the outer layer had a bit more firmness to it. And then the inside is a creamy white layer, which is very much a surprise but it works quite well! Overall the candy is very well balanced (I'll stop saying chocolate because there is no chocolate here). It has a bright vibrant flavor with a creamy inside, and a balance of texture from out to in. All in all, it really does manage to make it seem like I'm biting into a watermelon, which is pretty cool. Probably the most authentic watermelon experience of any candy out there. Now since I'm not a huge fan of fresh watermelon I won't be pining for more of these candies immediately, but it's a very pleasant experience.
